A star or a television actor?
20th Jan 2014|By sanghamitra

Bollywood and television industry in India is at its peak now. Once highly underrated and underestimated, television industry in India has now grown big and can no more be ignored. Today television and film industry are going hand in hand with many successful transformations from television to Films. Once the dream that was considered impossible, is now a little closer to the reach of television actors. Thanks to actors like Rajeev Khandelwal, Pulkit Samrat & Prachi Desai, today television actors now aim to make it big the film industry. But the question that arises here is does the film industry accept television actors ad a part of their big family? We guess the answer will be no, they are not.

The very first name in our list is MR. Rajeev Khandelwal, it has been a while we have seen him doing a daily soap. But who can forget “Sujal Garewal” of kahin to hoga who created a sensation in the country, made thousands of girl crazy for him. His intense looks, expressive eyes and the portrayal of a passionate lover made him heartthrob of the nation. He is still considered as the first and the only superstar of the Indian television.

But is this the only achievement he should be known for? No, today he is a popular name in the film industry. He is known for his unconventional choice of movies and his effortless performances. His transition to the Bollywood has been the most successful till date. His first movie Aamir is still appreciated and loved by all. He is the most dependable actor when it come to the popularity and most appreciated actor when it comes to the critics.

All his characters, be it spoilt DJ of Soundtrack or dedicated officer of Shaitaan had the same amount of dedication and honesty in them.

It has been 6 long years since he had made his successful transition to the industry still he is not being acknowledged as a Movie actor. None of his movies, inspite of having the deserving and the elements, have still been nominated or any of his work has been acknowledged by the industry biggies. The question is why? Is it so difficult for the industry to accept and acknowledge someone who is from a non film background or is it nearly impossible to get acknowledged unless you are related to some or the other camps? One most important question that comes in and which has been repeatedly asked to is that is it really so important to have a god father in the industry to make your presence obvious?

Still trying to find an answer to the questions, else why would, someone like Sushant Singh Rajput and Manish Paul be nominated in the category of the best newcomer while Rajeev was not even considered for the same even after his performance in Aamir?

Now is the time for all of us to think if Khan power over shadowing the talent of Khandelwal? What would you call Rajeev and many other actors like him? A television actor or a movie star? We leave the decision on you.

Here's what I feel -

Rajeev Khandelwal is a versatile actor and likes to choose his movies. His transition from TV to movies is beyond compare. Having the will to do something challenging is what he always strives for.

A voice reverberated from behind, loud and said.....

"You need a Godfather in film industry to rise......"

I disagreed ......and politely said......

"What a Godfather can do is much less.....rather insignificant.... if a talented, versatile actor works hard with sincerity , sets goals, and achieves them one by one. He then becomes a standalone example for others to emulate.....

Yes....that is what Rajeev Khandelwal will prove to be.

He is definitely and undoubtedly a Movie Star.

That is such an apt point. Glad you've mention about this one in your article. Today if anyone mentions about a successful transition from television to films it is only Rajeev Khandelwal. Talking about other actors transition so yes their first films were hugely hyped and they did decently well at the box office too but after that what? Rajeev did Aamir, followed by several other movies. He was extremely appreciated for Aamir, Shaitan and Table No 21 as well. Critics love him and i remember at the premiere of Aamir, director Sudhir Mishra commenting as Rajeev's acting is complete flawless. He's been widely appreciated by industry people for his work. This all proves his star power, how big star he is. Had it not been then shows like 'Sach ka samna' which was earlier offered to SRK wouldn't have been in his kitty. How many actor (from tv to films) have been able to do this?

Today signing movie deals with big banners is really not a big thing. It the acceptance of audience that really matters. Rajeev is a complete self made actor with no godfathers neither he's a part of any camps still he is doing decently well and his work is being appreciated widely. Inspite of all this it is sad to see him being still tagged as a 'television actor', and not being nominated at any awards. Nevertheless he is here to stay but on his own terms and not being in news for the wrong reasons unlike some actors. It's just the media who loves to tag him with this 'television actor' tag. They love him so much that even if they have nothing to write about they talk the good, the bad about him or probably his story of successful transition yet claim him to be telly star. C'mon guys! He's an actor and enjoy his work as its rare you get to see some great performances in his each project.

And lastly for people who say Rajeev isn't working with the big banner so since his TV career he has worked with the big banners. Take it Balaji films (who ruled tv in that period), Ketan Mehta (who's directed Aamir Khan in Mangal Pandey), UTV productions (RK's first film was a utv production), Sa ra ga ma (which again is a big name), Eros international (which is the no.1 banner today leaving behing the yashrajs and dharmas).

So here's an actor, a self made actor who is here to stay and entertain you!

I came across this article via twitter. It's a beautiful forum. It like you have spoken my heart out in your article. Rajeev has been overlooked since his debut while actors who has a deal with the big banners make it to the nominations. No reason for him not being nominated but he for now is a movie star.
